The third annual VFW Day of Service is taking place this Saturday, May 4th. The Lee's Summit VFW, Post 5789, will be working two events in our community. One group will be performing maintenance work at the Lee's Summit Historical Cemetery @ 806 SE 3rd St. A second group will be performing landscaping work on the Lee's Summit Parks and Rec land located on the NW corner of 2nd St. & Main St. If you don’t know which you want to do or where you are needed, please meet the team at the cemetery @ 9:00 AM. Someone there will divide working parties as necessary and proceed with work from there.The work on the Parks and Rec property located at 2nd St & Main St. will begin at 8:00. If you want to work this site, you can go directly to that location. The work will involve: A) Working on the hillside to remove brush and small trees, B) Removal of weeds from sidewalks and bridge landscaping, and C) Removal of dirt and debris from the road and sidewalk. There will have a 16’ flatbed trailer on site to capture debris. If someone wants to bring a 2nd trailer (one with taller sides would be wonderful), please do so. Please respond to this message and let me know. Please bring your own eye protection, gloves, shovels, clippers, W**d eater, etc. From the looks of the hillside, we probably need more pruning shears than anything.
We are extending a special invitation to all Veterans of Foreign Wars who are not yet members of the VFW, especially our younger veterans, to come work with us and learn how we can work together for the betterment of our community. If you know someone who is not a member, please bring them along with you!
