Hot off his success from ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, horror movie icon John Carpenter next drew inspiration from Howard Hawks’ classic sci-fi thriller THE THING, resulting in one of the most thrilling and beloved blockbusters of the ’80s.
Kurt Russell leads a group of men working in Antarctica who are plagued by an alien being that can take the form of any living creature…including the men themselves. Leveraging special effects from ROBOCOP mastermind Rob Bottin that still shock to this day, Carpenter crafted a film that combines body horror, Hitchcockian suspense thriller, and rollicking action movie into one wildly entertaining package.
