About the Play
Director AJ Sage (Contractions, Marjorie Prime) describes the script as "A personal drama woven through a ghost story, about belief and credulity as it relates to communicating with the dead." In the play a bereaved woman, Hilda, after suffering a death and a disappearance in her family, becomes attached to professional medium Linda.
"This was a play I immediately flagged as fertile ground for our style", says Sage. "There's verse poetry to the language that beckons the audience in but then it can become naturalistic and then quite sudden and scary."
Playwright Hnath, a Tony nominee for A Doll's House Part 2, is known equally well for his eclectic topics as he is for the quality of his work, spanning from horror to satire to historical fiction.
Carolyn Chave returns to HOI's stage after acting/dancing in the ensemble of 2019's The Skriker to play Hilda while Elizabeth Seldin takes on Linda. Rounding out the cast are Sylvie Yntema (Sylvia) and Daniel Baruch (Jerry). The play will be stage managed by Christine Fanourakis while Jeff Hodges helms scenic design.
