About this Event

On Saturday March 5th, 2022 Jazz Houston, Texas Southern University and Jazz At Lincoln Center will present the Texas Regional Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Festival! Join us as eleven of the greatest High School Jazz Bands from across the state perform works by Duke Ellington and others. The bands will be adjudicated by World Renowned Musicians and Educators, Rodney Whitaker (Director of Jazz Studies at Michigan State University, former bassist with Wynton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove), Steve Sveum (Former Director; Sun Prairie HS, Wisconsin), and Brian Perez (Director of Jazz Studies; Texas Southern University).

The full-day festival includes performances and workshops and will conclude with a 7:00 PM concert featuring Special Guest Saxophonist Walter Blanding (formerly with Wynton Marsalis), Trombonist Vincent Gardner (Lead Trombonist with Wynton Marsalis and Artistic/Education Director of Jazz Houston), Rodney Whitaker, Brian Perez and the Texas Southern University Jazz Ensemble. Come support our young Texas musicians for a great day of Jazz!
