An Analysis of Policy, Power, and the Public Interest
About this Event

Join Public Knowledge and the Cathy Hughes School of Communications Department of Communications Studies at Howard University for a landmark discussion on the 30th anniversary of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. As a cornerstone of modern communication policy, this legislation continues to shape how we connect, create, and communicate in the digital age.

This event brings together Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, policy advocates, and academics to explore the lasting legacy of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. From addressing structural challenges in media ownership and free expression to the ongoing mission to close the digital divide, our speakers will examine how past frameworks influence the public interest issues of today.

By hosting this conversation at the intersection of policy and community, we aim to underscore the vital connection between federal legislation and its real-world impact on the public.
