THE TAO OF WATERCOLOR: PAINTING WATER AND WEATHER IN WATERCOLOR Non-Certificated Class with Sharion Windom
Wednesdays, June 23 through July 28, 2021
1:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the Social Hall
$150.00 in Advance or $25 per Class Meeting + Cost of Art Supplies
Minimum 4 students – Maximum 6 students
This six-week class is designed for students with basic experience and skills in watercolor painting. Students will create original paintings using photographs, drawings, and imagination as reference material. Instruction will include capturing the essence of water and sky in its various, expressive nature and moods. A step-by-step planning process that includes: identifying center of interest and focal point strategy; choosing color scheme to enhance mood and atmosphere, placement of light and shadow; and creating turbulence and reflection. To this end, we will refer to guidelines presented by Gordon MacKenzie’s Three Steps for Creating Atmosphere/Mood and Stephen Quiller’s Color Choice that will help us understand and develop the various characteristics in our paintings. Students are to bring their own reference material. If you are without photographs, the instructor will bring photographs that the students may use, along with handouts for planning guidelines, sketch and tracing paper for drawing. Students should add to their regular watercolor supplies the following: Reference material, ruler, pencil, eraser, tracing or sketching paper, graphite paper (optional).
