Új lemezzel tér vissza Budapestre a The Subways!
A szinte tinédzser bandaként alakult triót 2020-ban családi okokra hivatkozva otthagyta Josh Morgan alapító-dobos – Billy Lunn, a frontembere öccse -, helyét Camille Phillips vette át.
Éljen sokáig a tér. Éljen a zene."

The Subways returns to Budapest with a new album!
The British trio has been touring Hungary a lot, we've heard a few lines of Rock & Roll Queen in Hungarian at their concerts (and in a quarantine version recorded in 2020, among other languages), but now they've starved the Hungarian audience with Covid and other changes around the band. But we won't have to wait much longer: The Subways will return to the Akvárium Klub on 27th March, and we'll be able to hear their new album too!
The last two years have not been easy for anyone and The Subways are no exception. The trio, which was formed as an almost teenage band, and Josh Morgan left the band in 2020 for family reasons - the younger brother of frontman Billy Lunn - and was replaced by Camille Phillips. Working on new songs during the pandemic was also hampered by Lunn's mental health, who has spoken openly about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and regularly attends Anonim Alcoholycs meetings. The new album was originally scheduled to be released in late 2021 or early 2022, but now it looks like everything is back on track for the band, as the title and release date of the new album have been released alongside the recently released Black Wax single!
The 5th album, Uncertain Joys, is due out on 13 January, and as a precursor to Black Wax, they've already released several singles. Billy says of Black Wax: " “Caught mid-wintertime during the pandemic, hibernating in the warmth of the band's studio, I'd indulge in days' worth of spinning my favourite artists' records on my turntable. Following one particularly beautiful session, I felt compelled to express my gratitude for music itself. Not just the inspiration my favourite artists offer me as a songwriter, but all the various aspects music holistically offers us as people: the respite, the sense of belonging and being understood (and thus the validation), but also the mere aesthetic pleasure of the space between our ears being tended to. Given that our first ever gig was on the hallowed stage of The Square in Harlow, which, following over a decade of Tory rule is now resigned to rubble, it felt only right to record my guitar parts with the guitar that had been built from the wood lifted from The Square's bar. This guitar, built by local legend Murray Torkildsen, was lent to me by a very good friend, Adam Smith, who fought so hard to save The Square in its final days. It's no coincidence that his handle online is Black Wax. Long live The Square. Long live music.”
In his post, Lunn added that they can't wait to play the song live, as it sounds huge in rehearsals. We're looking forward to it too, but we're also sure that along with the new stuff, they will be able to fit in a few classics like the iconic Rock & Roll Queen or Oh Yeah.
