The Struggle for Women’s Suffrage – a Nearly 100 Year Effort
About this Event
In 1776, Abigail Adams wrote to her husband John, urging him to “Remember the Ladies.” American women, she said, deserved a say in their government, as well as men. John Adams wrote back, “I cannot but laugh.”
It would not be until 1920 and the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, that women would finally have the right to vote. This presentation will explore the nearly one-hundred-year struggle for women’s emancipation, with an emphasis on women in Western Pennsylvania.
