About this Event
Welcome to Woodland’s 33rd STROLL THROUGH HISTORY.

This year’s Stroll will be a change from our traditional mix of historic styles. Woodland’s treasury of unique homes has continued beyond Victorians or Craftsman bungalows to include a fine selection of “mid century modern”. And here’s an astonishing fact. The mid century modern style is over 70 years old!
Created after WW11, the design principles combine post WW11 practicality, 1950’s optimism and love of new materials and fabrics with the minimalist principles of Scandinavian design. And let’s not forget lots of windows and sliding glass doors to let in plenty of natural light.
One of the first homes built in this style in Woodland was built in 1954 for Marietta and Phil Leiser. Designed by Dreyfuss and Blackford it is a model of mid-century design principles. Now owned and lovingly cared for by the Brian Lin family, it was one of the most popular homes on the 2019 Stroll Through History.
So this year, the Stroll offers five homes that are all unique expressions of a “mid century modern” style that began in the late 1940’s and is still called “modern” today, more than 70 years later.
