The Story Only You Can Tell: Reading and Memoir Writing Workshop
About this Event
Every woman carries a story she needs to tell, but many struggle to find its shape and give it voice. Join me, author, professor of writing, and TEDx speaker, for a cozy afternoon together where we will share some tea, and I'll read a few excerpts from my award-winning memoir, Uprooted: A Memoir of Belonging and Becoming (Regal House Publishing 2026) and then guide you through a hands-on workshop that covers the basics of getting your story out of your head and onto the page.
You'll learn how to find the story's heartbeat; negotiate Big 'T' and Little 't' truths; create compelling characters while protecting privacy; whittle down unnecessary details into a clean arc; and draw the work to a satisfying close. If there's time, we will also cover the state of the modern publishing industry and what happens after you get a 'Yes!'.
You'll leave with a clearer sense of your own story material and potential, a signed copy of the memoir, and a road map for where to go next on your writing journey.
If you'd like to have your copy signed, you may purchase one here and bring it with you. I will sign books at the conclusion of the workshop. Otherwise, bring a notebook, a pen, wear something comfortable, and your favorite container for mulled tea.
