SYNOPSIS AND DESCRIPTION

The Stories We Carry is a devised theatre work and culminating Master Production (in lieu of thesis) created through a collaborative process with UNCG Theatre Students and informed by two years of work with newcomer youth. Rooted in ensemble storytelling, movement, and imagination, the piece explores identity, belonging, and the ways young people navigate change while discovering their voices.

The story centers on a young girl adjusting to a new town, school, and community. Feeling isolated, she turns to the comfort of her books. As she journeys through imagined worlds, she begins to gather the lessons each narrative offers. Ultimately, she writes herself into these stories, bridging their worlds to help others and reclaim her own sense of agency.The Stories We Carry celebrates the transformative power of storytelling and affirms that the stories we hold—and the ones we create—have the power to guide us home.
