The Static Monsters is a strongman Push/Pull based in Australia that has become a worldwide event. This year the University of Southern Mississippi will host for the state of Mississippi and add three events to make it a United States Strongman Nationals qualifier. The lifts include a log press, axle deadlift, Saxon Bar hold, arm over arm truck pull, and a sandbag medley. None of these will be moving events, so the event will be truly static. Full details can be found in the Static Monsters Event Rules. This event is open to lifters of any sex and ability. There are adaptive classes for seated, standing, neuro, and upper extremity limitations. One of the event organizer (Joshua Smith) is an above knee amputee and will be happy to answer any questions related to these classes. To compete in an adaptive class you must have an impairment that must be approved by the Static Monsters organization. Please reach out to Joshua Smith for more information. The top ten competitors from each class internationally will qualify to compete in the 2025 Static Monsters World Championship. This year Justin Boleware of Hub City Barbell Club will co-host.
Weigh Ins: October 25th from 1PM until 6PM at the Hub City Barbell Club located at 48 Liberty Place, Hattiesburg, MS 39402. Limited weigh ins will be available October 26th at 8AM at the venue by appointment only.
Rules: Rules will be at 8:30AM the morning of the event. Attendance is not mandatory, however you will be held to the letter of the rules.

The event will use USS weight classes and guidelines for the sake of local scoring. Some of the classes we are running combined. For example Masters Lightweight and Heavyweight and Novice Lightweight and Heavyweight will be combined. If you don't podium for the sake of local scoring, you may still qualify for nationals. On the back end we will submit your scores to Static Monsters and filter you into your appropriate weight classes for their organization.
If you qualify for USS Nationals or the Static Monsters World Championships and elect to go, USS Mississippi will pay your entry fee into either of those competitions.
Log Clean & Press: This event will follow the rules laid out by the Static Monsters organization. The event rules are shown above. Time begins once the athlete touches the implement. You will have 60 seconds to clean and press the log, receive a down command. If you do not wait for a down command, you will not receive credit for the lift. Upper extremity amputees will use a Circus Dumbell. Seated athletes will clean and press from an approximately 55 degree angle while seated.
Axle Wagon Wheel Deadlift: This event will follow the rules laid out by the Static Monsters organization. The event rules are shown above. Time begins once the athlete touches the implement. You will have 60 seconds to complete the dead lift, lock out, and receive a down command. If you do do not wait for the down command, you will not receive credit for the lift. Upper extremity amputees will be allowed to use a strap or an Aldridge Arm for this lift. Seated athletes will perform a seated deadlift.
Sandbag Medley: A lifter will have 90 seconds to complete a sandbag overhead press, sandbag to shoulder, and a sandbag to platform. Objects must run in this order and will be scored using split time. Seated adaptives will perform a sandbag overhead press, a sandbag to shoulder, and a side to side load to platform.
Saxon Bar Hold: This will be a static hold for time. Seated adaptives will perform this event using a seated deadlift bench.
Truck Pull: This will be performed in a seated position. Athletes will plant their feet against a yoke reinforced by sandbags. Upper extremity amputees will perform this event the same way. Seated athletes will be harnessed to another truck or planting their feet. The time limit will be 90 seconds.
Note: The order of the last 3 events is not fixed for the sake of expediting the events. We plan to run some of these in tandem and leapfrog classes.
