The South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium, established in 1978, leads coastal research, education, and outreach as part of NOAA’s national network. Based in Charleston’s Gullah Geechee Heritage Corridor, it connects science with practical solutions to strengthen coastal communities.

Focusing on ecosystem health, climate resilience, sustainable fisheries, and economic growth, the Consortium delivers trusted, science-based insights through strong partnerships with universities and agencies. A standout program, the Mariculture School, offers hands-on training in shellfish aquaculture—covering oyster farming, permitting, and business planning—while promoting environmental stewardship.
