About this Event
The Sound of DC: Behind the Scenes, Opening Reception (Lab Gallery)
Come join us for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the music scene in the DMV area! This in-person event will be held at the Brentwood Arts Exchange.
"The Sound of DC: A Visual History" is a three-part exhibition series curated by photographer Pete Duvall, celebrating the rich and diverse music scene of the DMV area. Drawing from the University of Maryland's extensive digital archives, the series first explored Punk, which took root in the 1970s, followed by Go-Go, a homegrown funk genre that emerged in Washington, D.C., during the same era. Now, the final installment, "The Sound of DC: A Visual History (Behind the Scenes)," offers an intimate look at the people and places that shaped the region's music culture. Featuring photography and artifacts from iconic local venues, this exhibition collaborates with community stakeholders to present a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective on the extraordinary history of music in the greater Washington, D.C. area.
