About this Event
Why Black Greek Letter Sororities Should Prioritize Black Maternal Healthcare in Arkansas
Black Greek Letter Sororities were founded on principles of service, scholarship, sisterhood, and social action, with a long-standing commitment to addressing inequities impacting Black communities. Prioritizing Black maternal healthcare in Arkansas is a natural extension of this legacy.
Arkansas consistently ranks among the worst states in the nation for maternal mortality, with Black women experiencing disproportionately higher rates of pregnancy-related complications and deaths. These disparities are not rooted in individual behavior, but in systemic inequities, lack of culturally responsive care, and limited access to community-based maternal support.
Black sororities have historically stepped in where systems have failed, mobilizing resources, advocating for justice, and protecting Black women and families. Supporting Black maternal health is not only a public health imperative; it is a call to protect the lives of our sisters, daughters, nieces, and future generations.
This campaign offers an opportunity for sororities to move beyond awareness and into measurable impact, ensuring Black women in Arkansas are supported, heard, and protected throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
