About this Event

**Small Group Walk - Registration required, limit of 10 participants**

Description: I will speak about finding art in the everyday instances of urban life. My walk would help participants pay attention to the movements of life at a street corner, observing people as well as vehicles to appreciate how cities function. Another focus of this walk would be how architecture makes us feel about our neighbourhoods. Vancouver is a melting pot of different cultures, with many waves of migration, and I would like to illustrate that by helping participants observe both the built environment and the people who live in & around them. I believe sketching inculcates a habit of deep attention and observation, which directly improves our bonds with local communities, our neighbourhoods, and the salient aspects of our urban life that otherwise go unnoticed.

***Please bring your own materials for drawing such as a sketch pad and drawing tools for this walk***

Walk Leader: Nishant is an observational sketch artist who loves to make drawings of cityscapes from street corners and other vantage points. Nishant will speak about using a sketchbook to explore and understand a city and its amenities. His sketches have helped him make sense of foreign environments as an immigrant in the US and (more recently) in Canada. He will also speak about using a sketchbook habit to understand one's new environments and the people with whom we share them.

Starting place: David Lam Park, at the intersection of Drake and Pacific.

How to recognize your walk leader: Nishant will be carrying a bright yellow backpack.

Accessibility Info: Breaks offered along the way, Family-friendly, Bicycles welcome

Travel Tips: Parking may be difficult to find since this is downtown, but it is easily connected to transit (Canada Line at Yaletown-Roundhouse).

This walk will end at Coopers' Park.
