The artists also pay tribute to Chicago’s music roots by covering a song by another Chicago artist, present or past.
The monthly event is hosted by one of the show’s co-founders, Brandon Good, Lawrence Peters, Matt Gandurski or Russell Walker, each a key player in Chicago’s music community.

About the bands:
WILD EARP AND THE FREE FOR ALLS
Wild Earp takes you on a road trip across Americana, taking his time along those country roads and learning some bad habits in the city. His songs are of a man who’s spent too much time alone in the forest, the prairie, the mountains, the desert, and the barroom. With a respectful nod to the old masters and a defiant scoff at the purists, Earp croons his country tunes, and mixes those pensive trail songs with wide western soundscapes, country fried rock n' roll, and sometimes ventures into the dark corners of folk. His lyrics thread traditional tales of heartache, sinful living, and celebration seamlessly with social commentary and absurdism. There’s wit, wisdom, woe, and a wild streak that keeps you guessing.
He’s backed by The Free for Alls, a talented and fun-loving cast of characters with the skills of a supergroup. Their hootin’ and hollerin’ enthusiasm is matched by their good taste and broad talents, and they leave nothing off of the table. They ain't too hard on the eyes, either!
SWEET MEGG
Sweet Megg is a singer based in Nashville but originally from New York City. Her vocals reveal a vast variety of influences, ranging from Billie Holiday to Patsy Cline. She got her start as a songwriter performing in the city and was inspired heavily by the folk writers of Greenwich Village. After high school, she found herself down in North Carolina where she trained as a raft guide and got her first taste of Southern music. The sounds of bluegrass and country intrigued her and she always felt a longing to return. She continued songwriting in college and eventually moved to Paris to study jazz where she began performing around town with local musicians. After college, she returned to New York City and fell head first into the early jazz community where she found the excitement of improvisational jazz accompanied by the storytelling of the early blues and country music which she loved so much. She flourished in that community and her first formation, Sweet Megg & the Wayfarers, gained popularity and began touring outside of the city.
Her first two releases Under the Moonlight (2020 Data Records) & I’m in Love Again (2021 Turtle Bay Records) are steeped in the classic jazz she was playing every night in New York. After I’m in Love Again came out she finally packed up her bags and moved down to Nashville TN. She was able to convince Scott Asen (the chef of Turtle Bay) to do a record that mixed the sound of Nashville with the sound of New York. That was the inspiration behind her next album My Window Faces South (2022 Turtle Bay). She mixed her horn section & piano player from I’m in Love Again with a few of her favorite musicians down in Nashville (Chris Scruggs, Billy Contreras, Chris Gelb, & Dennis Crouch). They made another album with this band and released it this past year, Bluer than Blue. Now Sweet Megg is working on combining her love of jazz, blues and country with her roots in songwriting. She is working on a new album of all original music that will come out in 2025.
She has recorded and toured extensively with the band Postmodern Jukebox and is currently the lead in the newest show by Cirque du Soleil, Songblazers.
Lawrence Tome
Lawrence Tome (which is the name of the band and pseudonym for the singer). They take a lot of cues from Chet Atkins-era Nashville Sound, with a penchant for Beatles-Esque hooks, a decent use of space in composition, and a lack of constraint by traditional instrumentation. They may perform with a flute player one night and a steel player the next night for the same set, making each perform special (I got to be that pedal steel player once! For a band with such complex arrangements, there was plenty of room for ad libbing and improv I should add). There’s also as much heart in some songs as there is humor (take for example, their ballad “Swamp Thing” which is a western ballad for the Swamp Thing).
Brandon Good
Brandon Good is a Chicago artist with a penchant for Country music. Nodding to a wide range of notable genre influences, he brings in rock n’ roll, soul, singer-songwriter, and blues into his songwriting, all while remaining true to the dance hall and honky-tonk heritage he loves.
Brandon is no stranger to life on the road, having spent a decade playing with celebrated Chicago Celtic Punk outfit Flatfoot 56. During his time with the band they toured internationally and even charted on Billboard’s Heat Seekers chart.
After moving to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Brandon wrote and recorded his first solo EP, breaking into the Country scene with the release of “The Anvil” and the subsequent, stripped down, two-track EP titled “The Spitzer Sessions”.
With fervor and fire licks, Brandon then returned to the studio to begin recording his first full length record, “Restless”, which is set to release Fall/Winter of 24’.
After hosting several highly respected residencies and Booking himself and other touring bands countless shows in his home base of Chicago he’s revving up to start touring nationally and bring his songs and style to a town near you.
