About this Event
The second charity football match event hosted by The Simon Adair Foundation. Let's unite to support men's mental health.
The Simon Adair Foundation Charity Football Match:
Come and join us for another fun-filled day at Ashton Park Sports Centre, where this special charity football match will be hosted by The Simon Adair Foundation, to raise awareness for men's mental health issues. The 2 teams: Hightower Rangers and Bluebirds United are made up of some friends and family of Simon Adair and they will go head to head on the pitch to raise funds for a great cause. Whether you're a football fanatic or you're just looking for a good Summer's day out in Bristol, this event is perfect for all ages. There will be food, half time entertainment, games for the kids, an information/support desk promoting men's mental health awareness and talks by guest speakers from the community. For more information about the foundation please visit The Simon Adair Foundation website: (www.thesimonadairfoundation.co.uk).
Background:
Simon Adair was a multi-talented singer-songwriter, rapper, music producer and a kind-hearted, loving soul. Simon sadly passed away in February 2025. He suffered from anxiety and depression in his life and struggled with the stigma and subsequent fear of seeking longterm professional help. In spite of this, he always wanted to help other men in need one day. The foundation exists to honour this.
The aims of the foundation are:
- To raise awareness of anxiety and depression in men (particularly untreated symptoms).
- To help those who are suffering in silence to know that they are not alone.
- To point them to the help that they need.
- To help remove the stigma surrounding mental health issues amongst men.
Statistics show that men are less likely to be diagnosed with anxiety disorders or depression. This can be due to societal expectations about masculinity, which stop men from discussing their mental health. This indicates that many men could be suffering in silence and not seeking the help or treatment they need, which can lead to unhealthy coping methods for these men (such as self-medicating and even leading to suicide). Suicide and substance misuse rates are substantially higher amongst men than women in the UK, so we cannot let anxiety and depression-related issues in men go unresolved or continue to let stigma be a hindrance to men getting help and support. Let's unite and shed a light on anxiety and depression in men. Come along for a fun day and to support a good cause and let's kick away the stigma towards men's mental health issues together!
