The Shaughraun by Dion Boucicault

In one of Boucicault’s three great Irish Melodramas, The Shaughraun, Robert Ffolliot is separated from his love Arte O’Neill by distance (transported to Australia as a Fenian rebel). The division between Irish and English separates Claire Ffolliot and Captain Molineux. Wandering might end up separating Conn from his love Moya. Can these journeys end happily? Will Conn outwit the English and the Irish turncoats or will Cory Kinchella prevail? We invite the audience to respond as the nineteenth century audience would have – taking sides, hissing at the villains and cheering for the heroes (but no throwing things on stage!)
