About this Event
"The Seeds of Vandana Shiva" is a timely, moving and inspirational film about Vandana Shiva. She is a daughter of an Indian farmer, a scholar, and environmentalist activist. She is often referred to as "Gandhi of grain" for her activism associated with food sovereignty. She created a national movement to protect the diversity and integrity of living resources, especially native seed, the promotion of organic farming and fair trade. Dr. Shiva is a founding board member of many important organizations such as the International Forum on Globalisation and Diverse Women for Diversity. She received the Right Livelihood Award in 1993 and the 2010 Sydney Peace Prize. She is a councilor of the World Future Council.
We will host a free showing of the documentary on November 15th at 4:00 pm. Peaceful Planet Foundation; Coalition for Environment, Equity and Resilience (CEER); and Sewa Houston Chapter are our community partners. The screening will be followed by a discussion round lead by Nina Kuzniak, FirstUU ministerial intern. She will be joined by Stefania Tomaskovic, executive director of CEER, and environmental documentary makers Sofia Pineda Ochoa and Robert Rapfogel.
