The Secret Life of Sea Creatures Art Camp is a 6-week sculpture and drawing camp program that combines imaginative sculpture building with observational drawing inspired by the mysteries of ocean life.
During the first, third, and fifth weeks, students will construct imaginative sea creatures using paper, cardboard, recycled materials, and other fun sculptural media, learning how to build form, texture, and three dimensional structure through hands on experimentation.
In the following weeks, students will use their own handmade sea creatures as artistic models for drawing lessons, developing important skills such as gesture drawing, proportion, shading, pattern design, and perspective.
Through this creative process, students experience the connection between three dimensional construction and two dimensional drawing, gaining a deeper understanding of form, movement, and artistic observation.
Inspired by the sea creatures, students will create a portfolio of imaginative artworks that celebrate both the beauty of marine life and the power of artistic drawing skills.
Artist Biography:
Mei-Ying Dell’Aquila is a Taiwanese American award-winning artist residing in California. Primarily working in oils, her work has been exhibited in solo and juried shows in museums and galleries throughout the US, including the de Young Museum in San Francisco, CA and the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay, Oregon. Mei-Ying holds a Master of Arts degree from San Francisco State University and is the former owner and teacher at My Art School, an afterschool art program she ran for 25 years in Cupertino. As an educator, she encourages students to become the best they can be through promoting “self-empowerment to take charge and change the world for the better”. This legacy can be seen in her own paintings, which depict strong, confident figures and dynamism.
