UWL Theatre resurrects little-known gruesome fairytalesLa Crosse, WI -The University of Wisconsin La Crosse Department of Theatre Arts proudly presents the chilling fairytales in Mary Zimmerman’s The Secret in the Wings. Full of ghoulish developments and horrifying twists, Secret in the Wings will show February 24-25 & March 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees on February 26 & March 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Toland Theatre, Center for the Arts on the UWL campus on the corner of 16th and Vine Streets.
The Secret in the Wings adapts a group of lesser-known fairy tales to create a theatrical work that sets their dark mystery against Zimmerman’s signature wit and humor. The play opens as a married couple leave their young daughter, Heidi, with the babysitter for the evening as they head out to a party. The couple sees a genial, avuncular babysitter, but Heidi sees a hideous ogre with a spiny tail who has obvious plans to devour her. Full of dark creatures and jagged human motivations, The Secret in the Wings contains so many unsettling ideas and events, that it will stay unnervingly in your memory long after you leave the theater.
Tickets go on sale online beginning October 1, 2022 at www.uwlax.edu/theatre-arts. In person/phone ticket sales begin February 20 at 1:00 p.m. Box office hours beginning February 20 are 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before show times. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for senior/non UWL students and $8 for UW-L students; call (608) 785-6696. All tickets printed at the box office or held at will call will incur an additional fee. Patrons are encouraged to buy their tickets online and download the tickets to their phone/email. Assigned seating.
