Hosted by Mark Burr, the founder and editor of The Secret Coast Review and 2025 Mississippi Arts Commission Fellow in Poetry, this new literary series at The Traveler Café in the Walter Anderson Museum of Art invites the community to gather for an evening of words, art, and connection.
The series will showcase voices from across the Gulf Coast, from emerging poets and essayists to award-winning authors and novelists with national book deals who share new and established work that reflects the spirit, humor, and resilience of our region. Each event will feature readings of poetry, short stories, essays, or novel excerpts in an intimate café setting where guests can enjoy coffee, conversation, and a light meal among art and friends.
In the same spirit that Walter Anderson sought communion with nature and his community through creativity, this series continues that legacy through language. It’s a celebration of local storytelling and a chance for the public to engage with our writers face-to-face — to listen, ask questions, purchase books, and be part of a living conversation about what it means to create along the Secret Coast.
Whether you’re a reader, a writer, or simply someone who loves art and good company, the Secret Coast Reading Series at The Traveler offers a place where words and community meet — where each story, like Anderson’s brushstroke, helps us see our coast anew.
