🧠 Lecture: "The Search for Missing Antimatter"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Grant Kendrick Parker
Join us for a mind-bending evening as particle physicist Dr. Grant Kendrick Parker takes us into one of the biggest mysteries in modern physics: where is all the antimatter?
According to the Big Bang theory, our Universe began with an enormous burst of energy that should have produced matter and antimatter in equal amounts. Yet today, we see a cosmos filled with matter—stars, planets, galaxies—while antimatter is found only in trace quantities. Why did matter win? And what does that tell us about the fundamental laws of nature?
In this lecture, Dr. Parker will guide us through the high-stakes detective work physicists are doing to crack this cosmic case, from hunting for rare radioactive decays to traveling deep underground to build massive particle detectors.
Dr. Parker is a particle physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory whose work, published in Nature Physics and Physical Review Letters, has set world-leading limits on new physics, including possible new forces and models of quantum gravity.
