The Rule of Law in Elections

Join the Society for the Rule of Law Institute on Wednesday, October 28, from 6:00–9:00 PM at District Winery in Washington, D.C. for an evening exploring the relationship between the 2026 midterm elections and the Rule of Law.
In this unprecedented and challenging moment for our constitutional democracy, the 2026 midterm elections have taken center stage in American law and public service. As the Society for the Rule of Law Institute intensifies its work to meet these challenges, we’re hosting an engaging group of experts to help us better understand and respond to the moment.
The evening will feature two expert panels examining the most pressing Rule of Law issues in this election cycle from two different perspectives.
Maintaining Constitutional Principles in Election Law

Our first panel will examine the legal and institutional framework surrounding American elections. It will address election administration, voting law, and the challenges facing those charged with ensuring free, fair, and secure elections.

Our second panel will turn to the campaign itself, bringing together perspectives from politics, commentary, and journalism to discuss the state of our political system, the pressures of the election cycle, and what it all means for the rule of law.
