About this Event
Author Edo van Belkom reveals how his chilling short story The Rug, about a man-eating carpe, made the unlikely journey from page to screen. In this dynamic multimedia presentation, Edo shares the creative process behind his work, offering an inside look at how inspiration, persistence, and a touch of horror magic can bring a story to life.
Edo’s first published short story appeared in Year’s Best Horror Stories 20. Since then, he has written more than 200 stories across magazines and anthologies, earning both the Bram Stoker and Aurora Awards for his short fiction. He’s also the author of over a dozen novels, including Scream Queen, Blood Road, Martyrs, and Teeth.
His Silver Birch Award-winning YA novel Wolf Pack inspired the 2023 Paramount+ TV series of the same name, created by Jeff Davis (Criminal Minds, Teen Wolf) and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Tonight’s featured short film, The Rug, is adapted from Edo’s story originally published in the Horror Writers Association anthology Robert Bloch’s Psychos (1994). A finalist for both the Bram Stoker and Arthur Ellis Awards, The Rug has since been reprinted multiple times and translated into Italian and Japanese.
