About this Event
The Royal Pug Comedy Club!
8pm. 18+ Thursday 27th March 2025
‘March-ing’ (sorry) into Spring we go with another of our to-drawer and damn-right funny Royal Pug Comedy Clubs.
Come and marvel as the hilarious brilliance of this bunch – Ben van Der Velde, Shalaka Kurup and Joey Page!
Do note line-up is subject to change
Joey Page has been hailed as the future of stand up and is storming the circuit with his trail blazing brand of ‘Indie Comedy’ that’s surreal and inventive. Joey’s enigmatic and charming presence brings about an instant rapport with his audiences. Every now and again you see a comedian like this who’s so wonderfully gifted he makes it all look effortless. The style and subject matter of his material is unlike that of any other out there, making him one of the most unique and memorable acts you will see. He’s also favourite of Noel Fielding (from The Mighty Boosh and Great British Bake Off) and as a result has supported him on tour
“Surreal, charming and hilarious, one of comedy’s most unique and exciting new talents. This innately likeable young man has an instinct for funny” Chortle
“A stylish comedian with a sonic imagination and a twinkle in his eye” Noel Fielding
Shalaka Kurup is an award-winning Indian comedian. Her observational humour has been described as being “deadpan joy” (The Morning Star) and acerbic. She recently opened for Eshaan Akbar and Ria Lina, and has been featured on Channel 4 Digital and BBC One.
“an impressive arsenal of cool, sardonic stand-up” – Chortle
Ben Van der Velde is a stand-up comedian, actor, improviser and presenter. Over the past few years, has spread joy and nonsense to all four corners of the British Isles, as well as Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Norway.
Outside the circuit, Ben has performed a voodoo re-marriage ceremony, founded the Church of the Holy Kazoo with comedy legend Mark Thomas, and walked the entire London Underground network to raise money for The Refugee Council.
‘Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue.’
Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
‘Turns lazy stereotypes and political messes into biting, personal, satire.’
**** Ed Fringe Review
‘On flights of fancy, he pushes ideas to extremes and displays a crackling, spontaneous energy in which we’re swept up.’
