Death of a Salesman meets Mr. Bean... Join a lonely office worker on their quest for connection and fulfillment in Joylyn Secunda’s solo physical comedy The Routine. The mundane becomes the extraordinary as each vignette and dance takes you deeper into a whimsical world of illusion. The Routine will leave you in stitches and remind you of the magic within.

The Routine was previously seen at Edmonton's Play the Fool Festival and Vancouver's rEvolver Festival! Saturday June 22 will be its Montreal debut!!

Creative Team

Joylyn Secunda (they/them) — co-creator performer sound designer

Joylyn Secunda is a physical theatre artist actor dancer and puppeteer based in Vancouver. They have performed their solo physical comedy The Moaning Yoni 50 times in cities across Canada. They have performed with companies including the National Arts Centre The Wonderheads Monster Theatre Mermaid Theatre and Théâtre la Seizième. Joylyn was mentored by Crystal Pite during their Startle Reflex Residency. They are a BFA Acting graduate from UBC and have studied clown with John Turner (Mump & Smoot) puppetry with Peter Balkwill (Old Trout) in Banff mime with Dean Evans (Cirque du Soleil) mime with Benedikt Negro (Cirque du Soleil) mime at Omnibus and devised theatre at Dell’Arte International.

David Secunda (he/him) — co-creator director

Originally a visual artist specializing in fibre arts David Secunda transformed into a performance artist as he experimented in ritual style performance art at art show openings and conferences. Through the 1980's David Secunda performed physical theatre experimented with giant woven fibre masks and puppets and toured nationally and internationally with Imago and Theatre of Giants. In 1989 he became a theatre arts teacher in Coquitlam. After retiring from teaching he has appeared in several films and plays. He has published two novels Balancing Act and Fluid. He is the director and co-writer of The Moaning Yoni and is excited to be collaborating on The Routine.

Joylyn Secunda est un.e artiste de théâtre physique un.e interpret un.e danseur.euse et un.e marionnettiste basée à Vancouver. Iel a présenté sa comédie physique solo The Moaning Yoni 50 fois dans des villes à travers le Canada. Iel a joué avec des compagnies telles que le Centre National des Arts The Wonderheads Monster Theatre Mermaid Theatre et Théâtre la Seizième. Au cours des années 1980 David Secunda a joué du théâtre physique expérimenté des masques et des marionnettes géants en fibres tissées et effectué des tournées nationales et internationales avec Imago et Theatre of Giants. En 1989 il devient professeur de théâtre à Coquitlam. Après avoir pris sa retraite de l'enseignement il est apparu dans plusieurs films et pièces de théâtre. Il a publié deux romans Balancing Act et Fluid. Il est le réalisateur et le co-créateur de The Moaning Yoni et se réjouit de collaborer à The Routine.
