Balance what the audience wants with what your team needs. Pace a set with real highs, lows, surprise, and payoff.
About this Event

Explore the audience experience in this two-hour workshop on balancing what they want with what your team needs! No more guessing what will get a laugh. You'll learn to read the room, pace a set like a ride with real highs and lows, and make choices that serve the show as a whole, not just your moment in it. We'll explore how to build in surprise and release, when to give the audience what they're asking for and when to take them somewhere better, and how a team can work together to shape one satisfying ride instead of a string of disconnected loops. For improvisers who want to think bigger than the scene in front of them, this class will have you crafting sets that thrill, delight, and keep everyone strapped in for more! All experience levels welcome.

Daytime workshops at the Big Couch Binge offer something for improvisers of all levels, from those just starting out to seasoned performers looking to enrich their skills.

And, don't forget about our multi-workshop passes that provide a discount when taking more than one workshop on either day. See our full event page for workshop bundles.

About the Instructor - Carly Stroud

Lynae Leblanc is a former child model for a portrait studio next to the Long John Silvers in the most downtrodden wing of the Tacoma Mall. She is also a Big Easy nominated actress that has performed, produced, taught and directed sketch and improvised comedy in the New Orleans area for over 20 years and was the founder/directer of The National Comedy Company from 2005-2011. Her original live cartoon sketch comedy show Drunktoons featured her subpar animation and voice work and was a hit at the two comedy/theater festivals that thought it was a good idea to let comedians get wasted on stage. Currently, she coaches Sorry We’re Singing improvised musicals at Big Couch where she performs regularly with the Big Big Show, Spicy Bits, and Nerd Night, and co-directs sketch comedy.

Carly Stroud has been improvising since 2005 and performing even longer! She studied at The Second City and embraced their online curriculum during the pandemic. She helped to establish her college troupe, Lincoln’s Security Detail, and is the co-founder of Capital City Improv in Springfield, IL with her husband, Drew. Since moving to New Orleans, she has become a regular player with Big Couch, performing with various troupes such as Nerd Night, Sorry We’re Singing, and her favorite… We’re Partners.
