Join the New Orleans Coven at Hex New Orleans on December 23rd at 7pm to celebrate The Winter Solstice: A Witches' Sabbat! This is a free event.
Also called Yule, Christmas, Feast of Mary, and Feast of Sol, this Sabbat is observed December 20-23. This Sabbat begins the tide of Earth (also called the tide of lustration) and ends that of water. On the surface, the Winter Solstice celebrates the birth of the Divine Sun God, and many gods of the sun are indeed associated with this season. To Witches, however, this is a Sabbat about the life-giving mother--after all, the God is a child and fully requires her love and care. Because this Sabbat is associated with Earth, its magic centers around fertility, new beginnings, and resurrection.
