Deacons for Life!The Retired Deacons Club and Wives is a light, heartwarming and inspirational comedy about a cohort of senior citizen deacons who were retired from their specific specialized activities and roles of “Deacon” at their church. Though meant to be a celebration of the demotion to lighter duties, we end up exploring their actual responses and quests to find meaning in their next steps. The production highlights challenges, options, feelings, and the needs of certain people as they struggle to find purpose, value, and meaningfulness in their newfound retirement. The elderly is the fastest growing population. Because of access to better healthcare, we’re living a healthier lifestyle and, therefore, living longer.
