In 1921, headlines announced the death of Henry Starr, a silent film actor who met his end while attempting to rob a bank. But those who knew Starr were not surprised. The Cherokee outlaw had survived shootouts and death sentences and lived long enough to witness the invention of moving pictures. After his release from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in 1919, a hotshot movie producer convinced him he had the looks, charisma, and life story to become a star. So began a story about the American myth of reinvention, recidivism, and Hollywood.
Mark is an Emmy-winning screenwriter, journalist, and performer. A fifth-generation Coloradoan of Spanish Basque descent, he grew up steeped in the history of the American West.
