The Reading Room @ CDM

The Reading Room is a creative gathering dedicated to the communal studying of Black Feminist writers and thinkers.

Hosted monthly by House of the Lorde, a multifunctional studio based in Chicago, The Reading Room is a casual space that invites all to read, discuss and learn from the life and work of prolific Black artists.

This iteration of The Reading Room in collaboration with Crenshaw Dairy Mart pulls influential text from FORCE! an opera in 3 acts, premiereing May 23rd at REDCAT. FORCE! an opera in three acts is a new opera by Anna Martine Whitehead in collaboration with a constellation of performers. FORCE! is a meditation on Pr*son waiting rooms, the women who wait and their memories.

Join us on May 18th, as we collectively read, chat and and share stories using Audre Lorde’s iconic Black Feminist text, Transformation of Silence into Language and Action.

Light refreshments and copies of the text will be provided.

This event will take place outdoors.
