Join us at True Story Brewing this Sunday at 6:30 PM as we present The Quorum Poets’ own Jerri Beck. An open mic will follow Jerri’s reading. Jerri Beck created her first poem when she was four years old and didn't know what a poem was. After her mother explained, she realized how she loved the words and the images they could create so she continued to write in many forms.Born in North Carolina, she spent the '60s moving from state to state, writing about the people and places she encountered and earning money for college. Her work was included in the inaugural issue of Cadenza, the college's literary magazine and then in a national anthology. Later, her poems were published in the literary magazine of Western Carolina University.
She has spent time as a newspaper reporter, feature writer, and publications editor. In Miami she was involved in drug abuse prevention before moving to Birmingham and going to work at UAB. There her achievements included being the inaugural editor of the alumni magazine, winning national awards for writing, and having poems published in Aura. Currently, Jerri is writing her memoirs in addition to working on poetry.
