Location
The Yoga Room | Hong Kong, HK
About this Event
The psoas muscles are the deepest muscles in our body. They are the link between our spine, diaphragm and legs and act as messengers between our inner selves and the outer world. They are involved in almost every movement we make – walking, running and sitting and provide important pathways for neural messages.
- Venue: The Yoga Room
- Date: June 10, 2023
- Time: 2 – 5pm
The psoas muscles are a resource for resilience, centered-ness, stability and strength, and in order to find freedom in our bodies and in our practice, then we need our psoas muscles to be reflexive, responsive and reactive to our needs.
As a result of today's modern lifestyle, for many of us, the psoas is tight and weak, leading to a lack of deep core integration which can have an impact on how we stand, how we move and also how we breathe.
In this workshop you will dive into the world of the psoas muscle, through a combination of lecture, breath-work, somatic movements & asana you will explore:
Where the psoas is, what it does and what it influences. How to passively release, lengthen and engage the psoas muscles. How to access greater support from the spine. How to move your body with more connection and integrity.
You will walk away feeling more grounded, more centered and connected both to your body and your sense of self.
About Charlotte Douglas
Charlotte is an experienced yoga therapist; certified by the IAYT, and trained by the Wisdom Institute of Yoga who offer trauma informed, evidence based yoga therapy programmes.
Charlotte is originally from the UK but has lived in Hong Kong with her family for 13 years. She believes passionately that the practice of yoga is not just about physical well-being, but rather a much more holistic wellness approach. It’s about finding a sense of ease within the body. She offers a truly collaborative approach that is not bound to any one system or method of yoga. Instead, Charlotte brings together a unique combination of postural yoga, breath-work, somatics, meditation and mindfulness.
Charlotte believes that a practice of mindfulness is integral to developing a capacity to be aware of our internal state and therefore our ability to chose what to focus on. These tools range from simple and easy to do developmental movements to complex mobility tasks as a way to ‘wake up’ the brain without strain or injury. When incorporated into our lives, mindful movement can help us to build the tools and resources for greater levels of resilience.
