“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band Chamber Orchestra will present a survey of American music for chamber orchestra as part of the Library’s America 250 celebration. Drawing on the Music Division’s extensive collections, the program will illuminate some of the Library’s American treasures. As a premiere musical ensemble of the United States Marines, “The President’s Own” is nearly as old as the nation itself; it was founded in 1798 and given its moniker by Thomas Jefferson after it performed at his inauguration. Part of the Library’s celebration of America 250.
