In war-torn rural 1990s Iraq, a nine-year-old girl, Lamia, is chosen to provide a cake for her school class to celebrate the birthday of dictator Saddam Hussein.
Shortlisted for the 2026 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category (a first for an Iraqi production), the film is a tragicomic gem, bringing its morally complex world to life through a succession of vivid characters, as Lamia and her friend desperately try to find the necessary ingredients and complete their mission despite sanctions and shortages.
