Darlings, Lovelies, Dames and Dapper Dons,
On Sunday, December 8th, 2024, and after agonizing years of antici……PATION, we are BACK! The Poetry Brothel Chicago is over the moon to welcome you to Sultry Solstice: kicking off the Winter months with a long-awaited night of decadent literary naughtiness to heat things up. In the spirit of the internationally renowned Poetry Brothel presented by The Poetry Society of New York, our Chicago Chapter is delighted to indulge you this first time, and then - again and again.
At The Poetry Brothel, a “madam” presents a rotating cast of poets, artists, and artisans who operate within self-constructed characters, “erupting into verse in public and luring guests into back rooms for private readings,” as described in The New Yorker. Central to The Poetry Brothel experience is the creation of character, which for each artist serves as a disguise and a freeing device, enabling The Poetry Brothel to be a place of uninhibited creative expression where artists and audience members alike can communicate more authentically.
Join our ladies and gents of the evening as they escort you through Kashmir in Fulton Market: Turkish inspired decor set in a sexy space and filled with Italian panache and Parisian chicness. By the same artistic minds that brought you Bordel, Kashmir’s eclectic wall art and intimate VIP boudoir lounge will have you swimming in stimulation.
The Brothel doors open at 7:00pm where you can mingle with our artists.
The show runs from 8pm-11pm where along with glowing performances, our Madam provides a roulette cast of poets who offer private poetry readings in secret, sequestered, well adorned chambers. You may avail yourself of your choice of poet for tokens at any time during the event.
Don’t forget to wear your winter white or icy blue! Mid Century Cocktail/Evening wear is encouraged (but not required).

In addition to its poets, The Poetry Brothel features a diverse array of artists and activists, creating a dynamic experience that’s ever-evolving and delightfully unpredictable. Our performers represent a rich tapestry of identities—male, female, faeries, witches, aliens, POC, queer, and everything in between.
Consent is Key: Behave with beauty and connect with intention. We are, by and large, a no-contact event—here to blow your mind and nothing else! Always ask before touching anyone in our House, and report any discomfort to security, staff, or the Madam Herself without delay.
Accessibility: This event is wheelchair accessible (reach out to us for details). Please note that our show includes flashing lights, amplified music, fog machines, and a chance to glimpse your true self.
The Poetry Brothel supports s3x workers and to educate audiences about the s3x industry. We encourage all attendees to make a donation to GLITS, SWOP USA, and other organizations that fights for the health, rights, and safety of sx workers. You can donate on our website, or throughout the night of the event.
The Poetry Brothel is brought to you by The Poetry Society of New York. As of 2024, there are chapters operating worldwide, including New York, Los Angeles, Denver, Boston, London, Toronto, Bay Area, Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Mexico City and now, Chicago! We are pleased to be joining this ever-evolving family of writers and theater creatives.
