There is a severe lack of education available to the public regarding proper rabbit care. Many people continue to ‘set rabbits free’, thinking that they will thrive in the wild. ‘Rabbit dumping’ is harmful to both rabbits and the environment. Two dumped rabbits can quickly become hundreds without intervention.
?????? ??????????? ?? ? ?????-????? ????? ????????? ??? ???? ????? ???????, ????????? ? ?????? ?????? ?? ??? ????? ????????.
‘Dumped’ domestic pet rabbits will breed very quickly, creating colonies of ‘unwanted’ rabbits or "domestic ferals", as seen very locally at Jericho Beach. These rabbits spread disease amongst each other, destroy landscapes, and threaten native plant species.
This presentation aims to educate the public about this issue to reduce ‘rabbit dumping’ and to raise awareness about solutions that can help to mitigate the reproduction of the current colonies.
Rabbitats Rescue Society can help sterilize and build affordable colony housing for these domestic ferals. Controlled rabbit populations can replace feral colonies.
