The Plague in Canada’s Hockey Culture
6:30 pm: Doors open
7:15 pm: Conversation begins
Investigative journalist Rick Westhead will join IJB director Robert Cribb to discuss his new best-selling book – We Breed Lions – and his years of covering incidents of alleged sexual assault, hazing and abusive treatment in Canada’s national game.
Westhead, a senior correspondent for TSN and a contributor to CTV National News, has broken nation-shaking stories on alleged sex abuse by NHL hockey players that ended up before the courts, the abuse of young players by coaches and cases of racism in youth hockey. He has won six Canadian Screen Awards and received the 2023 CJFE’s Arnold Amber Award for Investigative Journalism.
Westhead explores societal issues in sports, providing a platform for the voiceless and holding accountable the powerful institutions that govern sports in our country. Prior to joining TSN, Westhead served as a contributor to the New York Times and was a reporter with the Toronto Star, where he worked as a foreign correspondent.
