The Pink & Kink Derby

Schedule

Fri Jun 09 2023 at 09:00 pm

Location

Rainbow City | Portland, OR

The Pink Ponies are back, and just in time for 6/9. On Friday, June 9, come join us for the pinkiest and kinkiest equestrian event of the summer: hot jockeys, fancy ladies, big hats, leather & lace. Put on whatever gets your hearts and horses racing, and come prance with us at Rainbow City—a colorful, irreverent, and inclusive venue in the heart of Portland. We'll be showcasing some incredible DJs, performers, and artists throughout the night. Can't wait to share some more queer burner energy with you and your friends!
The Sounds
Dance all night to upbeat house and high-energy remixes provided by two of our Portland favorites: DJs Dotlan & Remy D
The Sights
Gag at the lewks, moves, lip synchs, and overall ferocity of several talented Portland performing artists: Cody James, Mona Chrome, and Sophora the Aura.
The Goodies
Admire the crafts of several artists and designers who will be vending at the event. When you need a little break from dancing, why not do a little shopping? We'll also be raffling some fantastic prize packages, so grab some raffle tickets when you arrive.
Your Hosts
Pink Ponies is a kind and welcoming collection of queer-identifying campers at Burning Man. (For more on this amazing event, and it’s guiding principles check out burningman.org). We celebrate randomness and playfulness in this weirdly joyful community. We oppose all forms of racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, and ageism. Comprised of veteran and virgin burners, we launched in 2022 and look forward to returning to the playa in 2023 and beyond. We hail from all over the US and Canada, including several members who live in Portland. To see a glimpse of our experiences on the playa, check out our Instagram: @burningmanpinkponies. We are a registered nonprofit organization, and all proceeds from our events go towards building a more inclusive queer community, both on and off the playa.
What do you mean by “queer burner energy”?
Our intention for this event, and for our camp, is to blend together the best attributes of Burning Man and queer culture. This means creating space for ethical creative expression, sex positivity, and gender fluidity, all experienced against a backdrop of radical inclusion, generosity, open minds, and enthusiastic consent. Follow whatever paths your minds and bodies desire, and embrace the wonderful weirdos you meet along the way. We acknowledge how difficult it can be to let go of judgment—of yourself and of others—but we hope that a touch of Burning Man, with a healthy dose of queerness, can give you a helping hand.
