The Pie Sessions with Honeypie Bakeshop | Derby Time! Chocolate Pecan Pies

Learn the tricks to making your very own delicious pies with the expert baking team of Honeypie Cafe & Bakeshop. Held inside our bakeshop kitchen at our brother cafe, Palomino, our hands-on classes will guide you through a variety of different aspects of pie making and give you a peek into the life of a bakeshop. In each class you will bake your own mini pie or pies to take home. There will be lots of room for questions and answers during each class so come with all of your crust conundrums and filling inquiries . Classes are approximately 2.5-3 hours and are limited to 12 people. Class requires that you stand most of the time and work at a table in a working professional kitchen. We can make arrangements for a seated area for class - please let us know if you need this accomodation.

This Pie Session led by Lead Baker, Brooke Ogierman, is a lesson in making a shortening pie dough and turning it into a blind crust for baking a classic "Kentucky Derby" pie (aka chocolate pecan pie). We will have a lesson in making and handling pie dough, rolling, creating a "blind" crust, and creating the filling. We'll talk all about the interesting (and very litigious) history of this popular Kentucky Derby tradition. Pies will be baked during class so you will have time for plenty of questions and answers and hanging out with your new pie-loving friends.

Tickets for class includes all of your ingredients, a recipe with tips and tricks and a drink ticket for the bar.

(Please note, we often have long wait lists for our pie classes. Tickets to class are non-refundable if you cancel without more than 72 hours notice. If you need to cancel within 72 hours of class, you are welcome to email us, and we will offer your spot to a person on the waiting list. If it is taken by someone waiting, we will refund your ticket. You are also welcome to give your ticket to a friend and they can attend in your place.)
