The Philosophy of Rome

Joe Carrol and Nathan Beacom, Lyceum volunteers with experience teaching philosophy on the college level, will conduct a relaxed, conversational series of talks on the great thinkers of ancient Rome.

Seneca, Boethius, Epictetus, and Aurelius have offered moral guidance for millions down the centuries, including a deep impact on the founders of our country. The likes of Ben Franklin, John Adams, and Washington were deeply familiar with the figures, and sought to live lives shaped by their moral and political thinking.

Today, many still find insights in these thinkers that help them to pursue excellence, goodness, and a life with less anxiety.
