About this Event

The Pepperpot Diaries: Stories From My Caribbean Table is the long-awaited first cookbook from award-winning chef and broadcaster Andi Oliver. Featuring both traditional and new recipes, cherished ingredients and vibrant flavours from across the Caribbean, let Andi take you on an exploration of identity and heritage, as she shows you how to create simple yet sensational dishes that will bring the unbeatable flavours of Caribbean cooking to your table.

In The Pepperpot Diaries, discover a story of food that delves into the melting pot of cultural influences, history and rich heritage that has uniquely shaped traditional and contemporary Caribbean cooking. Andi explores how influences from as far as India, Spain, the Americas, Africa, China, Portugal, Britain, France, and from the indigenous inhabitants – the Taino, the Arawaks, the Caribs - make this an endlessly exciting and truly global cuisine.

Through diary entries and stunning photography taken during her travels in Antigua, Andi shares a deeply personal journey reconnecting with the food she grew up eating, and the flavours and ingredients that run through her heart and soul. In this beautiful cookbook, Andi introduces her takes on over 100 delicious recipes. From easy midweek meals like quick stews and light curries, and joyful big-pot dishes, slow cooked and layered with flavour, to show-stopping weekend and celebration meals and fabulous desserts that will bring friends and family together, there is something for every occasion.

Andi Oliver is an award-winning chef and broadcaster. She is a regular face on our television screens; as the host of the BBC's Great British Menu, presenting Sky Arts Live Book Club, Channel 4's Beat the Chef and Food Unwrapped, and as a contributing chef and host on BBC's Saturday Kitchen. Andi recently explored her Caribbean heritage in the much-praised BBC Two series The Caribbean with Andi and Miquita, alongside her daughter TV presenter Miquita Oliver.

Andi first rose to fame fronting the band Rip Rig + Panic with Neneh Cherry in 1981, before going on to establish a career in TV. She has fronted many shows on music, popular culture, and food, including The Truth About Food and Neneh and Andi Dish It Up for the BBC.

Throughout her colourful career, Andi has always come back to her work in the kitchen, perfecting her skill as a chef and getting involved with exciting food related ventures. She ran a successful ephemeral restaurant – The Moveable Feast – for four years and was then creative director of The Birdcage Pub on Columbia Road before launching her own kitchen at The Jackdaw and Star pub in Homerton. She opened her award-winning restaurant – Andi’s – in 2016 and 2020 saw her create her newest food project, Wadadli Kitchen. Here, Andi seeks to shine a light on real Caribbean home-cooking and create powerful conversations about exploring identity and migration through cultural exchange projects.
