The Past, Present and Future of Policing in Canada

Join us for an intimate discussion between the CrimSL community and Peter Sloly (Massey College Fellow). Peter will respond to our questions about his experiences of and ideas about the challenges and changes facing police institutions across Canada.

The conversation will be led and moderated by Professor Scot Wortley with contributions from members of the advisory committee of the CrimSL Research Cluster on Racism and Inequality.

Peter Sloly is the President of Sloly Solutions Inc., where provides strategic advice to organizations to help them achieve differentiated outcomes that contribute to safer, more inclusive, and more just societies. Peter is also a Visiting Fellow at University of Toronto’s Massey College. Peter enjoyed successful careers as a professional athlete, a Partner at a professional services firm and as a police officer who rose through the ranks to become Chief of Police. Over the course of his working life, Peter has travelled to five continents and over fifty countries. He completed two tours of duty in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo. Peter is a recipient of the United Nations and Canadian Peacekeeping Medals as well as being invested as an Officer of the Order of Merit (Police Forces). Peter is a graduate of the FBI’s “National Academy” and a graduate of the Canadian Forces College “National Strategic Security Studies” program. He has a Masters in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Throughout his life, Peter has been an IDEA champion – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism. Peter’s personal motto is “others before self, compassion for all.” He was born in Jamaica, immigrated to Canada and lives in Ottawa with his wife and two children.

A light lunch will be served in the CrimSL Library (1st floor) at 12:00 pm. The lecture will begin at 12:30 pm.
