About this Event
Candidate for the Office of Emperor John Brett, in conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Imperial Council of San Francisco, Inc. presents
The Original Riot Girls - An Evening at Compton’s
Please join candidate for the Office of Emperor John Brett as he hosts a discussion panel with Collette LeGrande and Donna Persona, co-writers of the immersive theatrical experience, The Compton’s Cafeteria Riots. Based on the story of the 1966 uprising in San Francisco’s Tenderloin that marked a seminal act of collective resistance in the ongoing fight for transgernder rights, Collette and Donna were regulars to the Compton’s Cafeteria and share their stories about being there and their need to create the play to share this important piece of history.
Additionally, we will have Chris Steele/Polly Amber Ross, who plays Vicky in the show, performing a monologue from the play.
Complimentary champagne and/or sparkling cider toast to celebrate the evening.
Net proceeds benefit the Transgender District and the Tenderloin Musuem, which are both registered 501(c)3 non-profits in the state of California.
The mission of the Transgender District is to create an urban environment that fosters the rich history, culture, legacy, and empowerment of transgender people and its deep roots in the southeastern Tenderloin neighborhood.
The Tenderloin Museum's mission is to promote the history and character of the Tenderloin neighborhood by offering educational, artistic, and charitable activities that support the neighborhood's current vibrancy, future potential, and enhanced economic development.
