In 1885, as High Springs boomed with rail road traffic, local entrepreneur Henry Richardson built the Opera House as a stylish, “socially acceptable” entertainment hall for a rowdy railroad town. Its Romanesque-influenced arches framed a second-floor hall that hosted vaudeville troupes, community dances, and—by the 1920s—silent films. Over the decades the building served as theater, movie house, and gathering place, and in modern times it’s been lovingly restored so the upstairs can keep welcoming celebrations, music, and memory-making.
