"Only I Am You, Then I Became You" คือนิทรรศการเดี่ยวครั้งแรกของศิลปิน จาจา ฉี ในประเทศไทย ซึ่งได้นำเสนอผลงานทั้งเก่าและใหม่ที่คัดสรรอย่างมีแนวคิด นิทรรศการนี้สานต่อการสำรวจเชิงศิลปะของเธอเกี่ยวกับแนวคิด “site-specific” หรือการสร้างงานที่ตอบสนองต่อบริบทของพื้นที่ กระบวนการสร้างสรรค์ที่ตั้งคำถามถึงความสัมพันธ์อันซับซ้อนระหว่างพื้นที่ สภาพแวดล้อม และประสบการณ์ของปัจเจก
แนวทางการทำงานของจาจาเต็มไปด้วยความละเอียดอ่อนต่อความเปลี่ยนแปลงเล็กๆ น้อยๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นจากการปฏิสัมพันธ์เหล่านี้ โดยแนวคิดเรื่อง “ความลื่นไหล” “ความผูกพัน” และ “ความคลุมเครือ” ถือเป็นภาษาศิลปะสำคัญในผลงานของเธอ ซึ่งฝังลึกอยู่ภายในตัวชิ้นงาน และสะท้อนถึงจุดตัดของประสบการณ์ชีวิตส่วนตัวกับคำถามเชิงอัตถิภาวนิยมในระดับกว้าง ขณะเดียวกันยังเปิดพื้นที่ให้วิพากษ์ต่อแนวคิดเรื่องตัวตน พื้นที่ และการรับรู้ที่ตายตัว
นิทรรศการนี้ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจอย่างลึกซึ้งจากแนวคิด “nomadic thought” ของนักปรัชญาชาวฝรั่งเศส ฌียส์ เดอเลอซ และ เฟลิกส์ กัตตารี ซึ่งเสนอว่า “คนเร่ร่อน” ดำรงอยู่นอกกรอบประวัติศาสตร์ที่ถูกทำให้ตายตัว และมีการเคลื่อนไหวในเชิงพื้นที่ที่ไม่ยึดติดกับขอบเขตของรัฐหรือสถาบัน หากแต่ดำเนินอยู่ในกระบวนการของ “การเป็นไป” ที่ไม่สิ้นสุด
นิทรรศการนี้จึงรับเอากรอบความคิดแบบเร่ร่อนมาเป็นจุดตั้งต้น เพื่อท้าทายโครงสร้างของเรื่องเล่าเชิงเส้นตรง และก้าวข้ามโครงสร้างของเวลาและพื้นที่ที่พันธนาการกันไว้แน่นหนา เป้าหมายคือการจินตนาการใหม่ถึงพลวัตระหว่างตัวตนกับโลก โดยการถอดถอนคำอธิบายและกรอบแนวทางที่กำหนดไว้ล่วงหน้า
นิทรรศการนี้เปิดพื้นที่ทางความคิดที่ไม่จำกัด และตั้งคำถามต่ออำนาจนำของ “ความตายตัว” และ “ระเบียบ” ที่ครอบงำอยู่ในโลกศิลปะ พร้อมเชื้อเชิญให้ผู้ชมเข้าถึงงานผ่านประสบการณ์ของประสาทสัมผัส แทนที่จะเป็นการวิเคราะห์ทางเหตุผล โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งผ่านการรับรู้ที่แฝงอยู่ในรายละเอียดเล็กๆ ของความคลุมเครือ ความไม่อาจระบุ และความขัดแย้งภายใน สิ่งเหล่านี้คือทางผ่านไปสู่การสะท้อนภาวะการดำรงอยู่ ภาษา และความหมายในระดับลึก
แก่นของนิทรรศการนี้ทำงานในฐานะการฝึกภาวะทบทวนภายในอย่างมีวิจารณญาณ บริบททางสังคมและประวัติศาสตร์ที่เราดำรงอยู่ รวมถึงกรอบวัฒนธรรมที่เรายึดถือ ได้สร้างอิทธิพลต่อความเข้าใจของเราที่มีต่อความเป็นจริงอย่างไร?
ผลงานที่นำเสนอในนิทรรศการนี้ไม่ได้มุ่งแสดงภาพแทนของความจริง หรือเป็นการสื่อสารตรงๆ ของวัตถุ หากแต่ทำหน้าที่เป็นกระบวนการเปิดเผยอย่างต่อเนื่องต่อความซับซ้อนและความไร้เหตุผลที่ซ่อนอยู่ใต้พื้นผิวของความคุ้นเคย ผลงานเหล่านี้ชักชวนให้ผู้ชมก้าวข้ามความเข้าใจผิวเผิน และเข้าสู่พื้นที่แห่งการรับรู้เชิงประสบการณ์และการใคร่ครวญอย่างลึกซึ้ง
จาจายังคงยึดมั่นในกระบวนการทำงานที่เน้นการสังเกต การวัด และการทดลองภายในพื้นที่จัดแสดงอย่างพิถีพิถัน ทำให้ผลงานปรากฏตัวขึ้นได้อย่าง “เป็นธรรมชาติ” ขณะเดียวกันก็ยังคงความหลากหลายที่ไม่เป็นเนื้อเดียวกัน
ผลงานเหล่านี้ไม่ใช่ถ้อยแถลงสุดท้าย หากแต่เป็นจุดเริ่มต้น เสมือนหมากในกระดานโกะที่ปฏิเสธการมีตัวตนตายตัว และมีความหมายเฉพาะเมื่อวางอยู่ในบริบทที่มันปรากฏ แม้แต่ละชิ้นจะดำรงอยู่อย่างอิสระ แต่พวกมันก็เชื่อมโยงกันในแนวระนาบ แสดงออกถึงวิถีการดำรงอยู่แบบ “เร่ร่อน” ที่เลื่อนไปมาระหว่างจุดตายตัว แทรกซึมเข้าสู่สิ่งไม่รู้จักผ่านรอยร้าวและช่องว่าง ค่อยๆ กัดกร่อนโครงสร้างและขอบเขตเดิมที่เคยมีอยู่
ผลงานแต่ละชิ้นสร้างศูนย์กลางของตนเองขึ้น ขณะเดียวกันก็เอื้อมออกไปหากันและกัน ก่อรูปภาวะการดำรงอยู่ที่ไม่ใช่ทั้งสิ่งที่อยู่ภายในโดยสมบูรณ์ และไม่ใช่สิ่งที่อยู่นอกออกไปอย่างสิ้นเชิง กระบวนการของการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์ การหลอมรวม และการสลายตัวนี้ ทำให้ผลงานร่วมกันสร้างเครือข่ายที่ลื่นไหลและไร้ร่องรอย พร้อมเชื้อเชิญให้เราก้าวข้ามจากการตีความไปสู่การรู้สึก จากความแน่นอนไปสู่การแปรเปลี่ยน และผ่านการรื้อถอนสิ่งที่คุ้นเคย สู่การสำรวจอิสรภาพแบบเร่ร่อน และศักยภาพแห่งการก่อเกิดที่ไม่สิ้นสุด

"Only I Am You, Then I Became You" represents the first solo exhibition of the artist Jiajia Qi in Thailand, presenting a curated selection of both her pre-existing and newly conceived works. This exhibition builds upon her ongoing inquiry into “site-specific” art, a trajectory of creative investigation that interrogates the dynamic interrelations between spatial context, environmental conditions, and individual experience.
Qi's practice is marked by a heightened sensitivity to the nuances of these interactions, with concepts of “fluidity,” “attachment,” and “ambiguity” central to her artistic lexicon. These thematic underpinnings, deeply embedded in her work, reflect the complex intersection of her personal life experiences and broader existential concerns, while simultaneously offering a critique of fixed notions of identity, space, and perception.
This exhibition is deeply informed by the concept of “nomadic thought” as developed by French philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. They posit that the nomad exists beyond the confines of fixed history, with their spatiality unshackled from the rigid constructs of nations and institutions, instead unfolding within an ongoing process of “becoming.”
The exhibition adopts this nomadic framework as its point of departure, endeavoring to disrupt linear narratives and transcend the interwoven structures of time and space. It aims to reimagine the relational dynamics between the self and the world. By stripping away prescriptive guidance and rigid frameworks, the exhibition creates an open intellectual space.
It interrogates the hegemonic positions of “fixity” and “order” within the art world, urging the viewer to engage with the work through sensory experience rather than rational analysis, particularly through their attunement to subtle, ambiguous, and contradictory perceptual details. These nuanced, uncertain presences act as gateways to profound reflection on existence, language, and meaning.
At its core, the exhibition functions as an exercise in critical introspection: how do the socio-historical contexts and cultural paradigms we inhabit shape our perception of reality? The works presented are neither direct representations of reality nor straightforward expressions of objects, but rather they function as ongoing revelations of the complexities and absurdities that lie beneath the surface. In doing so, they prompt the audience to move beyond superficial understandings and to enter a more profound space of experiential engagement and reflection.
The artist maintains her consistent methodology, which involves meticulous observation, measurement, and testing of the exhibition space, allowing the works to emerge in a manner that feels both “naturally emergent” and yet inherently heterogeneous. These works are not final statements, but rather beginnings—like pieces on a Go board, they resist fixed identities, deriving meaning solely from their contextual placement.
Although each work operates independently, they are interconnected horizontally, embodying a “nomadic” mode of existence—shifting between fixed points, infiltrating the unknown through cracks and fissures, and eroding existing structures and boundaries. They create their own centers while extending toward one another, engendering a state of being that is neither entirely self-contained nor fully external.
Through this process of interaction, fusion, and dissolution, the works collectively construct a fluid, traceless network, inviting us to shift from interpretation to sensation, from certainty to becoming, and—through the deconstruction of the familiar—to explore a nomadic freedom and the continuous potential for generation.
The whole exhibition is supported by the Mondriaan Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Thailand.
“Only I Am You, Then I Became You” will be on view from 25 September to 8 November 2025 on the 2nd and 3rd floor of SAC Gallery. You are warmly invited to the opening reception on Thursday 25 September 2025, from 6–9 PM. Admission is free, and visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist, curator, and fellow contemporary art enthusiasts.
