The Nu Skool of Afrikan American Thought 10th Anniversary Celebration!

Come celebrate 10 years of The Nu Skool of Afrikan American Thought! Black by popular demand and still going strong, our community has attended and supported the unapologetically Black, intergenerational intellectual space known as "The Nu Skool" every 4th Friday of the month since it's inception in March 2015. Our mission is to engage people of African descent in their own liberation through education. This festive event will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Nu Skool with African drumming, music, food for the soul, a digital photo booth experience, awards and a dynamic speaker, Africana Studies scholar and historian, Dr. Scot Brown, Associate Professor of African American Studies at UCLA. We have an amazing night planned. Solidarity-Twin Cities and Professor Mahmoud El-Kati extend to you a personal invitation as our guest. Your presence is our present! African/cultural attire is encouraged.

Info: Scot Brown is Associate Professor of African American Studies and History at UCLA. Brown is the author of the book Fighting For Us, and has penned numerous articles on African American history, social/political movements, music and popular culture. He is a contributing author and the editor of the book, Discourse on Africana Studies. Brown is in the process of completing a book project exploring the city of Dayton, Ohio as 1970s musical hotbed of soul and funk bands. His writings on African American resistance, social movements, and cultural nationalism have appeared in the Black Scholar, American National Biography, the Journal of Black Studies, and the Journal of Negro History.
