Once in a while along comes the ‘complete vocalist’, that rare and talented individual who can take any style and turn it effortlessly into their own. Nicki Allan is that vocalist – Whether it be Jazz, Soul, Gospel or Blues, Nicki’s rich timbre and superb vocal range enable her to move the hearts of the most hardened sceptic and draw in the listener to connect in a way rarely experienced nowadays.
Nicki Allan has an impressive career portfolio which has taken her all over the world as a professional jazz vocalist and pianist. Credits include Glastonbury, the 02 Academy, A recording deal with 33Jazz records, BV Session contracts for Sony and countless live performances at UK jazz festivals and prestigious venues. And winner of the coveted title of jazz Yorkshire vocalist of the year in 2011 for her contribution to women in Jazz Music.
Nicki’s influences span pianists and vocalists alike, from the subtle and beautiful tones of Diana Krall, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Joni Mitchell to the vibrant, rhythmic and Contemporary sounds influenced and inspired by Red Garland, Herbie Hancock and Monk, Underpinned with her stylish bluesy phrasing and love of vocal improvisation, which has become her trademark along with her warm Yorkshire personality.
Joined by her stellar band of Jazz musicians; Jose Canha Double Bass, Will Powell Guitar and Steve Hanley Drums this is going to be an eclectic evening of Jazz and Blues standards to suit all.
